If your washing machine fills with water but the drum does not start washing, several components could be responsible for the problem. One common cause is a faulty motor or worn motor brushes, which prevent the drum from turning even though water enters the machine normally. A damaged drive belt may also stop the drum from rotating in belt-driven models. If the belt has slipped, stretched, or broken, the motor may run without moving the drum.
Another possibility is a defective door lock or lid switch. Most modern washing machines will not begin the wash cycle unless the control board detects that the door is securely locked. If the lock mechanism fails, the machine may fill with water but refuse to continue the programme.
